Wootton Talks: Nicky Shaw

Our next speaker at 7.30pm on Friday 3 July is Nicky Shaw, the multi-award winning international set and costume designer working mainly in opera, but also in theatre, musicals, television and film.

She has designed productions for all leading opera companies in the UK, including Royal Opera House, Scottish Opera, Welsh National Opera, Glyndebourne Opera and Garsington Opera (she also created the dress that Louise Alder wore in the second half of the 2025 Last Night of the Proms)

Nicky has also worked extensively in Europe, including with Royal Danish Opera, Royal Swedish Opera, Komische Oper in Berlin, Frankfurt Oper, Mariinsky Theatre in St Petersburg, and Théatre Royal de la Monnaie in Brussels, as well as productions in Seoul, South Korea

She has collaborated on many critically-acclaimed productions with international opera directors including Orpha Phelan on La Cenerentola with Irish National Opera; and with Royal DeadMan Walking Danish Opera

Nicky has also worked with Annilese Miskimmon (currently Artistic Director at English National Opera), on Madama Butterfly at Glyndebourne, Semele with Garsington Opera, Jenufa with Royal Swedish Opera, Danish National Opera and Scottish Opera - plus La Traviata with Scottish Opera; Don Quichotte with Danish National Opera and Buxton Opera Festival and also The Magic Flute, The Diary. of Anne Frank and The Coronation of Poppea
