Take One Picture Project

This year, the whole school participated in the Take One Picture program, which is run by The National Gallery. Every year the gallery selects a focus painting from their collection to inspire cross-curricular learning in classrooms across the country.

The selected painting for this year was A Regatta on the Grand Canal by Antonia Cantaletto. Across all the classes the children were amazed by the size and detail of the painting. The children were encouraged to use a variety of medias to respond to the painting and teachers were required to document their class’s journey. It was brilliant to see how each class had created an entirely unique project from using the same stimulus, when we brought them together in a mini exhibition at school! The classes at Bladon created a collaborative jellyfish sculpture from recycled materials to highlight the impact of tourism on the canal, added modern features to the original painting to emphasise the changes in Venice, made flags to wave at a regatta and worked together to make a beautiful silk painting to represent Bladon on the Grand Canal!

Once the projects are submitted, a team from the National Gallery selects around 30 pieces to exhibit in London. Acorn Class (mixed Reception and Year 1) are thrilled to share that their ‘Bloom of Jellyfish’ has been chosen and some of their project will be on display at The Roden Centre for Creative Learning until 31 August! Well done Acorn Class!
